Proper Orchid and Tulip Care
Orchids in nature grow on trees, with the help of the roots they stay on the trunk, receiving food from the bark moist after rain.
Of course, an orchid is an extraordinary flower. She does not need soil, she urgently needs frequent watering and top dressing. But, despite all of the above, if you take proper care of the orchid, it will delight you with long flowering and rich green leaves.
Orchid prefers diffused sunlight
As a result, it is better to put a pot with an orchid on a windowsill on the north side or away from the window, so that direct sunlight does not fall on it during the day. Usually a daylight hours of 12-16 hours are required, if you do not want the orchid to go to a dormant period in winter, it will be wise to illuminate it with a fluorescent lamp.
It is necessary to grow an orchid in a translucent pot.
Its roots are photosynthesized, they need light for growth and formation. In opaque pots, the orchid quickly fades and can die at all.
The flower is in a pot with bark – this is an ideal base for orchids. Large pieces are laid at the bottom, the remaining places are filled up with small ones.
The bark excellently draws in and slowly returns water – this is what the plant needs.
Watering the orchid is required once every 7-10 days, in the heat – more often – once every 3-4 days. The pot must be lowered into a little warm water, the water should reach half the pot. Through the holes present in the walls of the pot, the bark will gain moisture.
Never water the orchid over the leaves, this will rot the leaves.
The stores have specialized fertilizers for orchids, which is very convenient. Fertilize should be stopped only if the orchid has ceased to bloom.
You can safely buy an orchid – these are very unpretentious flowers, they are graceful, exotic and simply must be in your home flower collection.
Tulips
The closer to spring, the more insistent is the desire to plunge into the delicate, but such optimistic aroma of spring flowers. These are just tulips – tender spring flowers. And for a long time, without coming off, touch the fluffy fringe of the petals.
I would like to quickly see the game of sunny bunnies, touch the first grass and hug a bouquet of tulips – delicate spring flowers. Their fragile petals of gentle, almost pastel tones, combined with the “enthusiastic” stem make the heart beat faster. Only the persistent drafts of February and the endless minus outside the window are trying to destroy the beauty and hope of spring.
As soon as you bring home a bouquet of tulips – delicate spring flowers, do not rush to put them in a vase. First, gently, under a stream of water (so that the air does not fill the pores) cut the stem, wrap it in moist paper and put the flowers in a cool place. While the tulips will get used to the new “habitat” temperature, pour water into the vase. Delicate spring flowers can hardly tolerate changes in temperature, as well as direct sunlight, drafts and dry air. From cold air or low humidity they darken and quickly fade. Therefore, carefully choose a place for a vase with delicate spring flowers: away from batteries and a heater, as well as windows and doors.
At night, the temperature in the room where the tulips stand should not exceed eighteen degrees. In order for tulips to please the eye for a long time, special attention should be paid to water in a vase. The temperature of the water should be room temperature (you can’t put flowers in cold water), filtered, that is, contain a minimum of chlorine and other harmful substances.
Tulips are very fragile and delicate flowers. It is better to buy tulips not earlier than two days before the holiday of March 8. Unlike autumn “strongies”, they cannot keep fresh for a long time. So special attention needs to be paid to top dressing. If you use professional disinfectors, they already have the necessary substances. If not, then the best remedy is regular sugar. A few refined cubes extend the life of your flowers. To cheer up tulips, you can take emergency measures, for example, remove the stamens. Or wrap the whole flower in paper and drop it in cold water for several hours. If you were presented with a bouquet in which, besides tulips, there are other flowers, it’s worth being on your guard. Firstly, in a vase, tulips continue to grow, and threads or scotch tape can pinch the stem. Secondly, different colors have different “service life”. And thirdly, do not rush to throw needles from the decor, as it helps to keep your tulips fresh longer.
