Live gift: instructions for use

So, they gave you a flower in a pot. Such a romantic present is undoubtedly pleasant, because the one who presented it to you is clearly not opposed to you often recalling it. But what if your knowledge of floriculture is limited to understanding the need for regular watering of a houseplant?

Flowers in a pot – a worthy alternative to a bouquet
“Feel the soil” and provide peace
The main rule for dealing with a newly arrived green guest is to provide him with as much peace as possible. Do not rush to put a flower by the window: hold it in the back of the room for a week or two, so that it adapts to new conditions. After that, do not place it immediately under bright sunlight and just in case, move it a little away from other plants, if any, for the first couple of weeks on the windowsill: let the rookie get used to the neighbors first at a distance.

The moment when the flower solemnly occupies the window sill should not come immediately
Feel the soil in a pot. If the earth is wet, do not rush the first time with watering, but if it seemed dry to you, water the flower with warm water.

Watering a new flower should be done if the soil in the pot is dry
In no case do you transplant the plant for the first two weeks, unless its roots rot. But even after this period, it is better to transplant the flower only if the pot clearly does not correspond to its size. If you hastily transplant a flowering plant, it can be deprived of all flowers and buds.

With a green guest transplant, do not rush
If you “replanted” nevertheless transplant a flower, do not fertilize it within a month after transplanting. An unplanted plant is also better to fertilize no earlier than three weeks later. If there are several bushes in the pot, do not plant them in different pots: there are plant species that die from this.

It’s not necessary to immediately hook up the “novice” to the “neighbors”
It should be borne in mind that in some cases, plants are experiencing severe stress from a sudden transition to new conditions and, unfortunately, dump flowers and leaves. However, do not despair, because with proper care, a green gift can resume its flowering.

Each flower has its own conditions.
What is the place to allocate for the permanent “registration” of a new tenant? It will depend on the individual requirements of the flower. They are mainly associated with lighting, temperature and humidity in the room. It is these indicators that should be found out primarily when collecting information about the plant. First of all, it is worthwhile to find out how often your gift needs watering.

With proper care, potted flowers will become grateful friends
An orchid remains a popular floral gift designed to arouse admiration, and the phalaenopsis orchid is the most popular variety. The optimum air temperature for the maintenance of this luxurious representative of the potted flora is from +18 to +27 degrees during the day and from +13 to +24 at night. Humidity, in general, this non-whimsical beauty requires a high – 60-80%, so with dry air in the room it is worth using special trays with grates for the pot, and in the heat to spray the plant from the spray gun.

Exquisite Gift – Blooming Orchid
A more budgetary, but no less popular version of the “live” gift is an elegant American flower called guzmania. To start flowering, guzmania requires high air temperature (above 25 degrees) and bright light, and a flowering plant should grow at a temperature of +12 degrees. However, guzmania must be protected from direct sunlight, especially at noon. Humidity for this flower should also be high, but it is impossible to overmoisten its soil – guzmania has a very weak root system.

Guzmania – lover of heat and light
It does not matter whether your gift will be the beginning of a passion for floriculture, an unusual alternative to a bouquet will give you a feeling of comfort and positive emotions. The main thing is not to forget about a little reverent attitude, which requires a green pet.

According to archaeologists, flowers were one of the oldest ways to decorate the appearance of a home. And scientists found the first rudiments of floristry in Ancient Egypt: it was from there that flower traditions migrated to other countries of the Mediterranean, and then to later civilizations. The Egyptians generously decorated flowers with houses, places of worship and sarcophagi, involved flowering plants in celebrations and ceremonies. It is known that the tomb of Tutankhamun abounded not only with luxurious decorations, but also with flowers that retained their original appearance in the burial.
